“ | What has two thumbs and loves Hollywood? This guy! It's a Todd Daring paradise! | ” |
–Todd |
"Hollywoodn't" is the eleventh episode of the second season, and the fifty-first episode of The Replacements.
Synopsis[]
Todd gets a role in Celebrity Starr's new movie about her short-lived romance with Shelton. Riley discovers that the movie is designed to humiliate Shelton, but her directorial ambitions get in the way of protecting Todd's friend.
Plot[]
Act I[]
Celebrity Starr is in town. She is filming a movie about her life, and she will be holding open auditions for the role of "Shelbin". When Shelton finds out, he freaks out believing that Celebrity is bent on revenge; she never got over being dumped.
There is a long line outside George Stapler Middle School. Auditions are being held in the gymnasium. Shelton trips and falls near the line, but to everyone's relief, he will not audition.
Celebrity passes on Johnny, Principal Cutler, Jacobo, and Buzz. Riley auditions to direct Celebrity's movie. Celebrity says "don't call us, we'll call you," and Riley gets escorted away by security. Finally, Todd auditions, and he immediately gets the part.
Later, Riley shows up on set with a bullhorn, but the real director, Rodrigo Tarintinez, grabs it from her. Todd and Celebrity film a scene where Celebrity saves Shelbin from a pair of rowdy bikers. Riley thought that she became the director; she took "don't call us, we'll call you" literally. She also points out that Celebrity chased Shelton, not the other way around. Celebrity decides to expand Todd's role in the movie, which means that the Darings are going to Hollywood.
Act II[]
When the Darings arrive at Fleemmount Studios, the guard blocks the rest of Todd's family from entering. After Riley replaces the guard, the Darings drive over to the soundstage where Celebrity's movie is being filmed. Shelton had stowed away in the glove compartment.
Celebrity escorts the Darings to Todd's trailer. The Darings will not be allowed to see Todd perform, as Rodrigo insists on a closed set. Riley wants to witness filmmaking firsthand, so Todd makes her his personal assistant.
Todd and Celebrity film a scene where Shelbin rejects Celebrity's chess advice and subsequently loses his match. Riley scolds Todd for making fun of Shelton. Todd declares that Shelton is more of an acquaintance than a friend. Celebrity flirts with Todd in front of Shelton, and they go to her trailer for s'mores.
Meanwhile, in the Stuntman Lounge, a pair of professional stuntmen mock Dick Daring for being a "sideshow buffoon" who straps rockets to bikes. The stunt coordinator calls them for a horse race stunt. The other stuntmen invite Dick to come along as a joke. Dick Daring shows up on a flying horse; he had strapped a rocket to a horse, despite the movie taking place in the Old West. The director kicks Mr. Daring out of the set.
On a rooftop, Agent K sees someone stealing a nuclear briefcase, and she swings down and kicks the man through fake bricks. The man turns out to be Josh Duhamel. Agent K thought the movie Duhamel was acting in was real.
Todd returns to his trailer to find the place a mess. Riley had been looking for the script. Todd explains that Celebrity gives him a few pages at a time to keep his acting "real and fresh." Upon hearing this, Riley confronts Celebrity, and she demands to know why Shelbin's scenes get progressively meaner. Celebrity admits that her movie is indeed her "revenge masterpiece." She then offers Riley a chance to direct the film, which Riley gladly accepts.
Act III[]
Agent K hears someone calling for help. She fires a laser at a robot, only to realize that she ruined another scene Josh Duhamel was filming.
On another rooftop, the stunt coordinator has a meeting with the professional stuntmen. In this stunt, a character falls off a building while wrestling a mountain lion. Neither one of the professional stuntmen wants to volunteer, but Dick Daring flawlessly performs the stunt with the help of his airbag medallion. The stunt coordinator tells Dick to do it again, but Dick, remembering when he was turned down for the western movie, storms away in a huff.
Celebrity and Todd film a scene where Shelbin pollutes a river upstream from Celebrity's grandmother's fish farm. After filming the scene, Todd tells Riley that the script really is mean to Shelton. However, Riley now has a big ego after becoming the director, and she ignores him. Celebrity then flirts with Todd and kisses him right in front of Shelton.
Todd returns to his trailer to see a gift basket from Shelton, along with Shelton himself. Todd asks Shelton why he sent the gift basket, and he replies, "that's what friends do." Riley gives Todd a revised script, and he's appalled by the ending, which involves a chainsaw and puppies.
Agent K sees someone stealing a fancy car. Josh Duhamel tells Agent K that someone stole his car, but she does nothing.
Todd confronts Celebrity about the script. Celebrity promises to become Todd's girlfriend if he finishes the movie. She reveals that she chose Todd because she thought he was Shelton's best friend. Todd insists that Shelton isn't his best friend, but then, he discovers that Shelton sees him as his best friend. Having gained some perspective, Todd walks off the stage while the cameras are still rolling. Celebrity fires Riley from the movie.
Epilogue[]
When the Darings arrive home, they notice that the lights are on. Agent K fires lasers around the living room, ruining the walls. Jacobo was only house-sitting. They all watch an ad for Celebrity Starr's new movie, Rod Daring is a Giant Dork.
